Of Mice and Men

To All God's Children,

Why would anyone choose pleasure over necessity? A rat who presses a lever that will stimulate the nucleus acumbens (i.e. the brain's pleasure center) rather than press a lever that will provide food. It's no different than a person who is willing to sell her body or a man his soul to satisfy a drug addiction. A young girl who desires to be skinny and "pretty" by starving herself, addicted to the attention from peers.
